I, too, have been to Auschwitz/Birkenau. I was there in March 2000, visiting a friend from high school who was assigned at the Warsaw Embassy with the State Department. I rode PKP in a triangle around Poland and when I got to Krakow, a savvy cab driver who knew the patterns, offered me all-day touring to the camps for about 20 bucks. And then later, for another 20 he took me to the Salt Mines. And then, for nothing, he drove me past Schindler's factory on a side street!
It snowed the morning of my cab ride out to Auschwitz, so my photos of the gate and the camp have a very haunting, gaunt look, even on Kodachrome slides...
Actually, I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that we're distant cousins of some sort. My father-in-law, I believe, was originally born somewhere in County Cork. My wife (Rebecca) and I are in Ireland visiting her Irish family fairly regularly - I think our next trip will be in January.
You should leave some contact information... Rebecca (my wife) would get a kick out of meeting someone who shares her name.

The Nunans
Did you know that the Nunan's originate from West County Cork in Ireland? There aren't that many of us about as the most common spelling is Noonan.
PS as a maths teacher I was tempted to say 2 + 18 = 22 (base 9) but I resisted!
