Calculate Cooking Time Using Newton's Law of Cooling

Use this calculator to estimate how long it will take for your food to reach the desired internal temperature. Enter two temperature measurements taken at different times, along with the oven temperature and your target temperature.

How It Works

This calculator uses Newton's Law of Cooling to predict cooking times. Newton's Law of Cooling states that the rate of heat transfer between an object and its surroundings is proportional to the difference in their temperatures.

The mathematical formula is:

T(t) = T_s + (T₀ - T_s)e^-kt

Where:

T(t) is the temperature at time t
T_s is the surrounding temperature (oven temperature)
T₀ is the initial temperature
k is the cooling constant
t is the time

The calculator first determines the cooling constant (k) using two temperature measurements you provide. Then, it uses this constant to calculate the time needed to reach your target temperature.
